Bridgestone/Firestone Technical Center

Harvey S. Firestone started Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1900 in Akron, Ohio. One hundred years later the company has changed, becoming Bridgestone-Firestone, and is now the largest tire manufacturer in the world. Bridgestone-Firestone maintains a sizable presence of 1,000 employees in the Greater Akron region. Bridgestone-Firestone’s Technical Center and Research Center are located in Firestone Park, the neighborhood built by Firestone many years ago to house his employees.

In 2012, the company completed a $100 million technical center that contains 450 well-paying jobs. The City of Akron helped finance this project by assisting in the acquisition of $50 million in tax breaks and low-cost loans.

The new building is four stories high with 246,500 sq. ft. of space that contains both engineering offices and state-of-the-art research laboratories. The company sees its new technical center as an investment in the community that will help revitalize the Firestone Park neighborhood.
