Greater Akron offers an experienced, skilled and educated workforce for companies concerned with the quality of their products and services.

Health Care

 Akron enjoys quality health care provided by Summa Health System’s ( Akron City Hospital and St. Thomas Medical Center; Akron General Medical Center (; Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron ( and a multitude of medical facilities and highly skilled physicians. Northeast Ohio has one of the largest concentrations of medical research and treatment facilities in the United States including the world-famous Cleveland Clinic ( and University Hospitals (


Akron Public Schools 

Residents of Akron recognize the importance of quality education and generously provide for public school construction, renovations and operations. The Akron Public School ( system is complemented by a variety of private elementary and secondary schools that together provide high-quality education opportunities and a sound springboard to post-secondary training and education.

In 2003, Akron voters approved financial support for a very unique and innovative partnership between the City of Akron, the Akron Public School system, and the State of Ohio. The goal was to rebuild the vast majority of our Akron school buildings, or “Community Learning Centers” as they are now called.  During the life of the program, the Akron CLC project will provide over $800 million in order to upgrade Akron’s schools into CLC’s.  41 percent of the required funding comes from the City of Akron, while 59 percent comes from the State of Ohio. The first CLC’s were completed in 2007, and a total of 31 buildings have been completed thus far, with approximately 15 buildings yet to be completed (as of 2014).  In addition to functioning as schools, our CLC’s are used for recreation, adult education, various community activities, after school and summer programs. The University of Akron (, the public research university for northern Ohio, is a world leader in creating new materials for the new economy; a national leader in the development, protection, management and commercialization of intellectual property; and a regional leader in information technology initiatives.

Thirteen colleges and universities are located within commuting distance of Greater Akron and offer a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. Within a 50-mile radius are 32 colleges and universities—more than any other region except New York. These universities offer courses and internships that respond to the needs of the business community.

Learning is not restricted to our fine educational facilities. The Akron-Summit County Public Library ( has aggressively invested in the expansion and upgrade of its already highly functioning, comprehensive system.
