Development and Redevelopment Areas

The City of Akron continues to reinvent itself as a city. We are actively engaged in all facets of development and redevelopment. A recent example of our assistance was the redevelopment of the Gothic Building.

The Gothic Building, a Chicago-style, four-story building, was constructed on Mill Street in 1903. The Gothic Building has many features of interest including an atrium, which was essentially a precursor to the green movement. The center light lets in natural light and reduces operating expenses, making it a healthy, efficient working environment. The Gothic Building was slated for demolition, but Tony Troppe's renovations have saved it. Today it accommodates a variety of professionals who want to work in central proximity to Akron's legal district. The Gothic Building is located directly across from the John S. Knight Center and is part of the "legal loop" via the skywalk system that connects directly to the municipal state courthouses located on High Street.
