Terry Albanese, Ph.D., became Assistant to the Mayor for Education, Health and Families on June 2, 2014. Terry joins the City of Akron after several years of experience conducting health services research at Summa Health System, teaching at The University of Akron and the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), and serving as the Ward 6 City Council representative from 2001-2009.

Terry earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Certificate in Life-Span Development and Gerontology from The University of Akron in 1984 and a Master’s degree in Gerontology from Miami University in 1985. After becoming a licensed Nursing Home Administrator working in Xenia, Ohio, Terry returned to her home town in 1988 and earned a Doctorate degree in Sociology from The University of Akron.

Throughout her career Terry has served on the City of Akron’s Charter Review Committee, EMS Advisory Board, and Planning Commission; Summa Health System’s Home Health and Hospice Professional Advisory Board; The University of Akron BSMD Advisory Committee; and NEOMED’s Palliative Care Advisory Committee; CYO and Community Services Advisory Council and St. Matthew Parish Council.

Terry and her husband Mick have three children and live in Ellet; her favorite Akron family fun spot is the Akron Zoo!
