Annual National Inventors Hall of Fame Induction Week Schedule of Events

Mayor Plusquellic at Inventure Place announcing Induction Weekend events


AKRON, OH -- September 2, 1998 -- Inventure Place, National Inventors Hall of Fame, is excited to announce this year's schedule of events for Induction Weekend '98. Festivities will begin Thursday, September 17th and continue through Saturday, September 19th.

The annual Women Pioneers in Science and Technology luncheon will be held at the Akron Hilton at Quaker Square on Thursday, September 17th. This year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Patricia E. Bath, Ophthalmologist and inventor. Dr. Bath received a United States patent for her Apparatus for Ablating and Removing Cataract Lenses. The reception will begin at 11 a.m. with the luncheon immediately following at noon.

The two-day Continuing Legal Education Program on Intellectual Property Law Practice will be held at the Akron Hilton at Quaker Square on Friday and Saturday, September 18th & 19th. This conference reviews current issues affecting intellectual property law practice.

A creativity seminar, "The Roots of Inventive Thinking" will be held on Friday, September 18, 1998 at the Akron Hilton at Quaker Square from 9 a.m. 5 p.m. This seminar discusses the latest processes in creativity as the root of inventive thinking with leaders in the field from the American Creativity Association.

The annual BFGoodrich Collegiate Inventors Program awards luncheon, will also be held on Friday. The awards luncheon honors the winners of this national invention contest for undergraduate and graduate students. The luncheon is being held at the Akron Hilton at Quaker Square at 12 noon.

Friday evening, the National Salute to Corporate Inventors awards dinner will be held at the Goodyear Technical Center. This awards dinner, sponsored by Goodyear, honors top inventors in corporations across the country.

The National Gallery for Young Inventors awards luncheon will be held on Saturday, September 19, 1998 at the Akron Hilton at Quaker Square at 12 noon. This luncheon is sponsored by the Partnership for America's Future, and honors the winners of this national invention contest for primary and secondary students.

Saturday afternoon offers the general public the unique opportunity to meet some of the greatest minds in the country. The Meet the Inventors program allows you to ask questions of National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees, past and present, as well as winners of the BFGoodrich Collegiate Inventors contest and the National Gallery for Young Inventors contest. This event is being held at Inventure Place, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The Party on the Plaza will immediately follow the Meet the Inventors program. The Inventure Place Plaza will be full of food, fun and excitement. Activities will continue right up to the Induction Ceremony.

The annual National Inventors Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will follow Saturday, September 19 at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on the campus of the University of Akron. This formal ceremony will honor the contributions and work of our new class of 1998 inductees.

The Black Tie Gala, themed Jewels of the Night, will immediately follow the Induction Ceremony. This elegant affair includes dinner and dancing in celebration of the inductees.
