Welcome to the Personnel Department Dear Visitor: The Personnel Department of the City of Akron is responsible for providing a comprehensive human resources system for all City employees and related agencies. The Personnel Director is accountable to a three member Civil Service Commission and responsible for a staff of 10 employees and a budget of $1.1 million. The functions of our department are not unlike that of private industry or other large cities. The scope of responsibilities include employment (recruitment and selection), compensation (job evaluation and job classification), employee records (leave and payroll certification), and employee training (skill and supervisory training). In addition, the Personnel Department has to ensure the City of Akron is in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing human resource issues. The City of Akron is home to 200,000 citizens, with one of the lowest cost of living indexes among major cities in the State of Ohio. The City employs approximately 2,200 full time and seasonal employees. In addition, the Personnel Department is responsible for administering a merit system for the classified employees of the Akron Public Schools. For additional information:
