(02/20/09) - Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic will
be honored Saturday with the Mayer Global Citizenship Award, presented by the Institute
for Global Leadership at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.The Award, named
for Dr. Jean Mayer, Chancellor of Tufts (1976-1993), is given annually to those dedicated
to solving the most pressing problems facing the world. Dr. Jean Mayer, a world-renowned
nutritionist advised presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter as well as the United Nations.
Plusquellic will also participate in a symposium sponsored by the University,
"Cities: Forging an Urban Future." Other participants in the panel are the
former mayor of Medellin, Columbia Sergio Fajardo and the mayor of Haifa, Israel, Yona
Yahav.
